Gold Leaf Beaver Skull, Black Teeth, Biting A Clear Quartz Wand, On A Bed Of.... Condition is "New".Gold leaf covered beaver skull on a bed of plush mink or sable fur, biting down on a double-terminated clear quartz wand.
This beaver skull had very humble origins, yet has risen to the ranks of the Uber glam. The top skull and lower jaw I don't believe are even from the same animal, but I replaced it's missing teeth with some spare beaver teeth. The front, top teeth were sculpted in, as was one of the lower front teeth. All teeth are painted in matte black enamel.
The skull itself was missing it's zygomatic arch on one side, common with older beaver skulls. I sculpted it a new one, using the existing one as a guide. The whole thing was carefully covered, every millimeter, in real gold leafing. And sealed with an acrylic gloss top coat.
Since the lower jaw is a bit small for the upper skull, the teeth didn't line up evenly...so I placed a beautiful, crystal clear double terminated quartz wand just under the top molars. So it looks like it's chomping down on the crystal.
The top skull and lower jaw are permanently connected. But the skull is not glued down to the fur base. And the crystal, while it does fit snugly in-between the teeth, is not permanently attached.
The skull comes with a display base, which is wooden, and covered in real fur. The fur is either mink or sable. The fur is scraps from a furrier that I purchased at a junk shop in Brooklyn. I don't support the fur industry, but I don't see why we shouldn't use their discarded bits.
All in all, I was very happy to take some old broken bones and transform them into something luxe and glamorous.
Size: skull is 5x4.5x4.5.' The crystal wand is 2x1." And the base is about 6x8" with the fur, while it's a 5x7 wooden base under all that fur.
Animal origin: he was assembled from a large bone lot that I purchased from a taxidermist.
