E32 #1.3   This is a beautifully framed large Tarantula Hawk Wasp.  He looks wonderful in this weathered wood frame with a tan and black fabric backing.  This display is approx.  8 x 6 x 1 1/2" and would be a great addition to any collection.  The wasps sizes are all 3 1/2 to 4 inches w/ antenna and legs extended.

an entomologist, and has accordingly been stung by a lot of bugs. So he invented something called the Schmidt sting pain index  (named after some guy called Schmidt, apparently), which ranks the pain of insect stings from one to four. Down at one is something like the fire ant, which is so named for a reason, while up at four is the bullet ant, which is so called for a very,
very
good reason.
Joining the bullet ant at four is a critter that lives right here in the southwestern US: the tarantula hawk. It’s actually a kind of solitary wasp with a sting whose resulting pain only lasts three minutes, but it’s so fiercely electric that it could only be described as totally unacceptable. "There are some vivid descriptions of people getting stung by these things,” says invertebrate biologist Ben Hutchens of Texas Parks and Wildlife, “and their recommendation—and this was actually in a peer-reviewed journal—was to just lie down and start screaming, because few if any people could maintain verbal and physical coordination after getting stung by one of these things. You're likely to just run off and hurt yourself. So just lie down and start yelling."

small broken parts such as antennae or a detached wing, antennae are so fragile that they cannot be guaranteed in shipping.  Wings and other small parts are easily fixable and you should be aware that you may have to fix (glue) a part when purchasing items like these.  If there is a major problem I will take care of the matter.  See my feedback for confirmation.  I rarely have a problem but even with good packaging it is impossible for us to Guarantee that specimens will arrive totally intact although I have had very few problems to date.  If you pay for Priority Mail your items will be covered by postal insurance and any loss or damage can be claimed, First class shipping does not come with insurance on shipping so no damage claims are accepted.
