Description
Absolutely magnificent diaphonized twin turtle specimen curated by Gerard Geer of Articulated Imagination.First developed in 1977 by the scientists G. Dingerkus and L.D. Uhler, the process of diaphonization has also been known as "clearing and staining." The animals are rendered transparent (the "clearing") by bathing in a soup of trypsin, a digestive enzyme that slowly breaks down their flesh. They also soak in several batches of bone, muscle, or cartilage dyes (the "staining"), with
alizarin red
and
alcian blue
the most commonly used.
I originally won this in an auction, and then used it in a giveaway for my shop. The winner opted to take the optional cash pay out instead. This item has been stored in the safest conditions, approximately 2 inches tall x 2 inches wide. Can be affixed to a base for no additional cost.
Would retail for a minimum of 00 USD
